About

Raymond E. “Ray” Stephens

I am a registered Patent Attorney with over twenty-three (23) years of experience exclusively in the area of Intellectual Property or “IP”. I earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Animal Science from the University of Tennessee in 1985; a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1991; and a Masters of Church Music Degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky in 2008. While I was in law school, I started clerking with the law firm of Pitts & Brittian, and after law school became an attorney with that firm where I assisted clients with various IP matters from the fall of 1991 through the summer of 2004. From September of 2013, until spring of 2023, I practiced with the firm of Pitts & Lake, P.C., a successor in interest to Pitts & Brittian. And, in June of 2023, I started Stephens IP Law which focuses its practice primarily in the areas of patent procurement, trademark registration, IP portfolio management, and consulting on various intellectual property litigation matters. I am licensed to practice law in the State of Tennessee and am admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee, The United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, The Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, The Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and The United States Supreme Court.

I am a member of the Tennessee Bar Association and the Tennessee Intellectual Property Law Association.
